Water leaks from the side of the pump, is this normal?

  • Yes, this is an air bleed hole to help prevent the pump from getting air lock.

Why does the float switch go all the way up, but the pump does not turn on?

  • Ensure there is nothing blocking the float from going all the way up.   

  • The float assembly needs to be replaced, because it is not pushing the pump to the on position. 

Do I need to drill a separate air bleed hole since the pump already has one?

  • If one air bleed hole gets clogged, then yes, drill another hole. 

Why does the pump hum, but the impeller does not spin?

  • The pump could be clogged.   

  • The motor or the capacitor could be going bad. 

    • If so, replace the pump. 

The pump turns on and the impeller spins, but it does not discharge water.

  • The pump is air locked.   

  • There is blockage in the discharge line.   

  • The check valve could be installed in the wrong direction or not opening.   

  • Head/vertical pumping height is too high for the pump.

The switch activates, but the pump does not turn on.

  • Ensure proper voltage supply. 

  • Ensure the ground fault has not tripped.
